Sierra Metro is an independent, not for profit artist run gallery space currently housed in a disused testing facility for the Northern Lighthouse Board, in Granton, Edinburgh. This is a largely industrial area in the north of the city, that is in the early stages of being regenerated. This gentrification will, ultimately, dictate the gallery's tenure of the building.
Our intention is to showcase and support emerging visual artists who have made a commitment to their practice and to realizing their ideas. We aim to engender a climate of flexibility and experimentation for everyone who exhibits in the space. The current setting allows a much larger area for exhibiting than might often be available to artists in their early careers. Having a fixed setting for the initial series of exhibitions is important in providing a focus for the artists we are collaborating with.
Open to change and collaboration, we aim to make Sierra Metro a welcoming and democratic place for discussion, development and exchange surrounding diverse practices in Scotland and beyond.
